Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard and Team Sparco Rally xD Fight Back to Second Place at 100 Acre Wood Rally

SALEM, Missouri (ACP Racing) February 28, 2012 – Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard and the Scion Rally xD team fought through choking dust on the roads in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri to take second place in the two-wheel-drive category on the 100 Acre Woods rally this past weekend.

ACP and the team had their work cut out for them after being caught behind ailing competitors for three of the five legs of the rally. They lost minutes of valuable time trying to drive through walls of dust thrown up by slower cars in front.

“The dust was bad anyway,” said ACP, “but on three legs we had a car in front of us limping out of the stage – one that got back on the road after a crash, one with failed brakes, and one that rolled right in front of us. It was impossible to pass them, and incredibly frustrating to be flat out everywhere and then have such bad luck with the dust. But that's rally...” The team estimates that they lost almost three minutes to the dust problems.

But with an aggressive drive on the second day of the rally the team hauled back over a minute and a half on their rivals, won five stages, and finished only 2.8 seconds ahead of third place despite driving the last five stages with no third gear. Said guest co-driver Brian O’Kane of Australia: “it was nerve-wracking knowing that we had to be pushing so hard in the dust to get back on the podium, but we both love a challenge.” O’Kane and ACP have taken two consecutive class victories on Targa Newfoundland in a Toyota Supra MkIV.

Several of the 2WD teams also had problems, with two of the rival Ford Fiestas suffering from the aforementioned brake failure and roll. A third Fiesta won the class with a fast and trouble-free run.

The result keeps the team in a strong second position in the national 2WD Rally Championship. Said team manager Philip Chase: “we’ve got the

technology and the team to win the championship, but with such great competition we certainly have our work cut out for us.”
The 2011 Scion xD that the team races is in constant evolution, and was sporting several innovative improvements for this rally as well as a boost in horsepower courtesy of GReddy.

BFGoodrich g-Force tires provided the traction for the team. Said Comrie-Picard: “We had amazing grip and no flats at all on the rally, which is remarkable given how hard we were pushing. Several other teams suffered punctures and high-speed delaminations that slowed them down. We were wide open the whole time with no problems.”

The team shared the podium with Ford Fiestas in first (Chris Duplessis/DMack) and third (Dillon Van Way/BFGoodrich) places. Remarkably, the top four 2WD vehicles were in the top ten finishers of the rally overall in a 64-car field, besting many AWD cars with much more horsepower and showing the flat-out competition in the class this year. The 100 Acre Wood rally is the seventh time in eight Rally America appearances that the Scion xD has been on the podium.

Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard and Team Scion Rally xD Score Second Place at Icy SnoDrift Rally

ATLANTA, Michigan (ACP Racing) January 30, 2012 – Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard and the Scion Rally xD team scored a well-earned second place in the two-wheel-drive classes of the 2012 SnoDrift Rally in Atlanta Michigan this past weekend.

The podium result was hard-won after the team lay in fifth place overall after the first night of competition: “Honestly, on Friday night, I was questioning whether we could turn the race around” said Comrie-Picard, “but between some smart setup changes on the team’s part and a bit of a reset in my driving style, we managed to turn the tables on our competition on Saturday and go from over a minute out of second place to a solid result and a kickoff to our championship. I’m as proud of this result as of any in more than ten years of rally driving.”

The Scion team is competing for the overall two-wheel-drive Rally America Championship in 2012, and is very happy with the finish this weekend. Said Gordon Ting, team principal: “This is a solid result and a terrific points haul. We know from last year that we have what it takes to win on gravel, and we’re looking forward to the 100 Acre Wood Rally in late February to prove it!”

The conditions were treacherous, with a combination of water on ice, glare ice, and a dusting of snow over ice. Said co-driver Jeremy Wimpey: “Imagine your worst nightmare of an icy road surface, then drive it through the woods on a one-lane road at 90mph. It was that sort of weekend…”

BFGoodrich Winter Slalom KSI tires provided the traction for the team. Said Comrie-Picard: “Nothing should be able to grip the glare ice we were on; it’s a testament to the tires that we stayed on the road at all. The Winter Slalom’s compounding and tread pattern gave us the advantage we needed.”

The team shared the podium with Ford Fiestas in first (Chris Duplessis) and third (Dillon Van Way) places. It marks the sixth time in seven Rally America appearances that the Scion xD has been on the podium. The team plans to contest the entire Rally America Championship.

Late race charge ends in snow bank for rally driver ACP ?d=98

February 9, 2010

MANIWAKI, Quebec (ACP Racing) – A flat-out charge from defending North American rally champion Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard ended in a snow bank this weekend at Canada's icy season opener.

"No regrets," said Comrie-Picard. "A podium finish would have been nice but we had a clear shot at the win – we had to go for it."

The NOS Energy-backed rally team of ACP and co-driver Jeremy Wimpey had already overcome an early misstep and were angling for the win when they went off road just a few kilometers from the end of the grueling ice and snow contest.

The duo had planned a strong start, but a surprisingly slick corner on the first stage caught them off-guard. They were the second leading car to wind up in the ditch early in the event, following defending Canadian champion Pat Richard's tracks right off the road at a popular spectator corner.

"You can count on Quebec spectators to help you out, but even we thought this was a lost cause," said Comrie-Picard. "The car was deep in a ditch; I can't believe they got us out."

The crowd of spectators, led by legendary Quebec rally driver Sylvain Erickson, hooked a tow rope to the team's competition car and pulled them back on course. The incident cost them five minutes, damaged the driveline, and dropped them to fifty-third overall.

But the team didn't give up. The service crew repaired the car and Comrie-Picard and Wimpey put in a clean performance, steadily moving up the standings until the long, deep forest stages late in the contest when they turned up the heat and clawed into second place overall.

A cautious drive to the end would have virtually guaranteed the team a podium finish, but with one long stage to go and a minute-and-a-half to gain, Comrie-Picard saw an opportunity.

"Points are points, but it’s called ‘racing’ for a reason," said Comrie-Picard. "We decided to push for the win."

The team drove to the limit, sliding wildly at times and using the low snow banks to nudge the car back into line at full speed.

With just six kilometers to go, the team was on pace for the victory when they slid wide on a treacherous corner and wound up in a snowy field. The team dug frantically and put deadfall wood under the tires, but it took a hard pull from the car of competitor Ian Crerar to get them back on the road. The team lost 20 minutes on the stage and finished out of the points.

Comrie-Picard's team was not the only one to have difficulties. All three of the key championship contenders had problems this weekend so the points race remains wide open.

Rally car racing is considered the extreme sport of automobile racing and is often described simply as “real cars, real roads, real fast.” This all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over courses that cover more than 100 miles of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads.

The sport is featured in the annual X Games, the premier action sports event on the globe, featuring athletes competing for medals and prize money in sports including BMX Freestyle, Moto X, Skateboard, and Rally. Comrie-Picard has been among the dozen invited drivers in each of the four years since the rally discipline was introduced to the contest and he expects to return in 2010.

ACP takes strong early season points ?d=97

February 2, 2010

ATLANTA, MI (ACP Racing) -- Defending North American rally champion Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard earned some strong early-season points with a fourth-place finish at the icy U.S. season opener this weekend in northern Michigan.

The NOS Energy-backed rally team of ACP and co-driver Jeremy Wimpey took a cautious approach to the contest in some of the most challenging winter conditions ever seen in U.S. rally competition.

"It was like a luge course out there," said Comrie-Picard. "The first few stages were the iciest I have ever seen… and the rally just got icier from there."

Racing on ice  is about keeping it tidy and making fewer mistakes than the competition. It's a strategy that earned ACP the win at this event in 2006, and he has finished on the podium in each of the past two years.

The rally was going to plan, with the team working toward a podium finish, but a misstep led to an off-road excursion that cost them eight minutes. Pro mountain bike riders Carl Decker and Adam Craig – both national team members who ride for Giant and rally on their off  weekends – stopped in the middle of the race to yank them out so the team didn't lose any more time shoveling.

The incident dropped the team to eighth but, with some smart driving, they were able to bring their car home in fourth-place overall.

The event drew thousands of spectators to northern Michigan to cheer on the teams – despite the cold and icy weather.

Special thanks from the team to the Garland Lodge and Resort in Lewiston, MI, for their support at this event.

The Rally America national championship is a challenging, all-season series comprised of six events across the country. Rally America also organizes the marquee X Games rally contest each summer, airing on ESPN and ABC.

The 2010 season will also see the launch of the European-style rally cross discipline mid-year. Comrie-Picard is expected to take on both of these US rally series and make a return to the X Games for a fifth time. He will also compete in the Canadian Rally Championship.

ACP starts season at Sno*Drift ?d=96

January 28, 2010

Defending North American rally champion Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard is heading for a snowy season start in Michigan this weekend at the first round of the 2010 Rally America championship.

The NOS Energy-backed rally team will take on Sno*Drift in their familiar, top-spec Evo IX. Despite tough competition from factory-backed teams, Comrie-Picard remains a favorite for the win in the January 29-30 contest.

"I'm feeling good about our chances this weekend," says Comrie-Picard. "Between the heavy development of the Subaru team cars and the new threat from Ken Block in that European Ford, there's a lot of amazing new machinery out there -- but we've got reliability and experience on our side."

Comrie-Picard took the win at Sno*Drift in 2006 and has finished on the podium in each of the past two years. The team is counting on a combination of tactical aggression and experience to get them to the top as they take on a 100 mile course that will see them hit speeds of 130 mph on glare ice and snow.

"Snow and ice driving is a real artform and I love it," says Comrie-Picard. "I grew up with this weather; I'm right at home in these conditions."

Comrie-Picard will be accompanied by co-driver Jeremy Wimpey at this event. The duo ran select events together in 2009, scoring a mid-season win together in Colorado.

Special thanks from the team to the Garland Lodge and Resort in Lewiston, MI, for their support at this event.

ACP wins North American Rally Championship! ?d=94

November 23, 2009

TORONTO, Ontario (ACP RACING) - Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard and the NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution won the North American Rally Championship this past weekend with a podium finish in the season-ending Rally of the Tall Pines.

The win represents the first championship for the Mitsubishi Evolution X, and the first rally championship for NOS Energy Drink.

"This is a terrific result, especially given that we were working on developing the new rally car throughout this first competition season for the Evolution X," said Comrie-Picard. "But our sponsors and our team came through and we won a very tight championship race."

A late-season push, including a win at Rally Colorado and a second-place finish at the Rally of the Tall Pines, sealed the driver's title for Comrie-Picard. Co-driver Jeremy Wimpey joined the team to secure both of these top finishes.

The season-ender was unusually dry and warm and made for very fast speeds and intense competition. Fans and media at the contest noted Comrie-Picard's aggressive driving throughout the event --  which saw him tearing off bumpers, bending bodywork, and even taking out a finish board -- in contrast to his normally tidy style.

"We told ACP to win the championship or leave it in the woods," said crew chief Eric Vlasic. "He actually did leave some of the car in the woods, but he brought in the championship!"

"We had this car wide-open the whole time," added Comrie-Picard. "I just wasn't lifting in most corners or over crests and fortunately, the Ohlins TTX shocks were amazing, the Yokohama tires took the super-high sideloads at 200 km/h (120 mph), and our K&N filter kept the engine safe even through some deep water splashes."

The team is already preparing for 2010 and looks forward to defending the championship and competing at the X Games for a fifth time.

The NOS Energy Drink motorsports team has had an exceptionally successful year, winning four major racing titles: the North American Rally Championship, the Formula Drift Championship, the Redline Time Attack Series, and the NASCAR Nationwide series.

Rally car racing is considered the extreme sport of automobile racing and is often described simply as "real cars, real roads, real fast." This all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over courses that cover hundreds of miles of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads.

North American Rally Champion ?d=93

November 23, 2009

Andrew Comrie-Picard is the 2009 North American Rally Champion.

He secured the title with a second-place finish at the final round of the Canadian season in Bancroft, ON, on Nov. 21.

It’s been a strong season for the driver who snagged third-place overall in the highly competitive Rally America championship in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, and put in enough top results north of the border to score the title -- even during a development season in Canada for a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

The 2009 season saw ACP score his best finish at Rally Colorado in September, where he topped the podium with new co-driver Jeremy Wimpey.

He also finished in the top-five at X Games and became one of only four drivers to be invited to the high-profile international contest every year since its inception.

The driver took on short-course off road racing for the first time and scored a podium finish in his debut outing in Lake Elsinore, California.

ACP also stood on the mound at a Major League Baseball game when he was invited to throw the first pitch at an LA Dodgers game in July, and he was featured in X Games 3D - the Movie with saw national release this summer.

Rally car competition has a short off season, and the team will be back in action in just two months’ time with the U.S. season opener, Sno*Drift. Watch this space for more exciting news in the coming weeks as ACP expands his racing activities and takes on TV.

ACP and NOS Energy take third in 2009 Rally America Championship ?d=92

October 22, 2009

HOUGHTON, Michigan (ACP Racing) – Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard and the NOS Energy rally team scored a third place overall in the 2009 Rally America Championship, edging Monster Energy's Ken Block out of the top three despite suffering an engine failure while angling for the a podium at last weekend's season ender.

"We had the runner-up position in the championship in our sights, so the DNF at the final round was a disappointment," said Comrie-Picard, "But we’ve had a strong season and the whole team and all our partners deserve a huge thanks for the effort that carried us to all the successes this year."

Comrie-Picard and ACP Racing were consistent podium finishers throughout the 2009 Rally America season, with their results topped by an overall win at the  Colorado Rally last month and a top-five finish at the high-profile X Games this summer in Los Angeles.

The factory-backed Travis Pastrana, of Subaru Rally Team USA, took the championship win for a fourth-consecutive season, while top Polish driver Andi Mancin secured second place after ACP retired from the season ender while running in second place overall.

Initial investigation suggests that the engine was damaged by water taken in at a water splash about 90 miles into the 130-mile contest.

"We’ll be back next year to contest not only the rally championship and X Games, but also the new Rally America rally cross contests scheduled for late 2010 in the Northeastern USA," said Comrie-Picard. "Next year looks like a great one and with our renewed relationship with NOS Energy we expect great success."

Team ACP wins Rally Colorado ?d=91

September 22, 2009

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO (ACP Racing) – Driver Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard and his NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX took a decisive win this weekend at Rally Colorado, the 8th round of the national Rally America series.

"I love it when it's a battle," said Comrie-Picard. "We were fighting tooth-and-nail with Travis (Pastrana) early in the rally and that's really satisfying."

The challenging Colorado rally through the high-desert roads around the Yampa Valley is fast and often features widely variable weather. This year was no exception. Dry, dusty conditions on Day 1 were replaced by driving rain that turned the roads slick with mud on Day 2. The rally ended under a rainbow.

A ferocious early battle shifted gears on Day 2. Comrie-Picard and co-driver Jeremy Wimpey found themselves holding position at the front of the pack for the second half of the rally after Subaru Rally Team USA rival Pastrana barreled through a chicane – taking huge penalties.

"We would have preferred to have raced hard in a close fight right to the end," said Comrie-Picard. "But to finish a minute and 46 seconds in the lead is an accomplishment to be proud of after 100 miles of racing."

The team took the most stage wins of any team, winning eight of the 16 stages.

The first-place finish moves Comrie-Picard into the top-three in the overall Rally America series -- ahead of Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block -- and extends his lead in the North American Championship. With one round remaining in US competition, the driver is assured to at least tie Block for third place in the 2009 season.

"If Rally Colorado was anything to go by, the final round next month is going to be intense," said Comrie-Picard. "We're making every round count this season."

The Colorado event saw the team return to US competition for the first time since their top-five result at X Games 15 this summer in Los Angeles. The team took a two-round hiatus from regular season competition both to prepare for the prestigious contest, and also to return their competition vehicle to gravel rally specification afterward. Rally America allows two event drops in the season, counting seven of nine rallies toward the championship.

Second-place went to Polish driver Andi Mancin and co-driver Maciej Wislawski, while Nathan Conley and co-driver Todd Moberly finished in third-place overall.

It's the first time that Mitsubishi cars have scored a one-two finish in Rally America history.

"It was great to see two Mitsubishis atop the podium," said Comrie-Picard.

Rally car racing is considered the extreme sport of automobile racing and is often described simply as “real cars, real roads, real fast.” This all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over courses that cover hundreds of miles of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads.

ACP heads to Colorado ?d=90

September 16, 2009

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO (ACP Rally) – Rally Driver Andrew Comrie-Picard and his NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX will make a return to U.S. rally competition this coming weekend, following a tough event in Canada.

Comrie-Picard is in a tight battle for the top three in the 2009 Rally America championship as the series winds up. He is currently in fourth place, just two points behind Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block, but he is confident he can move up.

"There's going to be some great racing in the final two rounds," said Comrie-Picard. "We're playing catch-up to the other guys, but we're going to make every round count this season and claw up the rankings."

Rally America allows two event drops in the season, counting seven of nine rallies toward the championship. While some teams, like the factory-backed Subaru Rally Team USA, run all nine events, the ACP Rally Team is able to contest seven rounds in 2009 -- so every rally counts for the team's points standings.

Comrie-Picard will be accompanied by guest co-driver Jeremy Wimpey in Colorado.

The team was competing this past weekend at Canada's Rallye Defi Ste-Agathe in their developing Evolution X when they were forced to abandon the contest at the mid-point after a rock punctured the oil cooler and resulted in damage to the engine.

The driver, with co-driver Robbie Durant, was running a strong third overall in the rally when a rock thrown up in the right wheel well damaged the oil cooler. The team stopped between stages, re-routed the lines to delete the oil cooler, and drained the oil from a spectator vehicle into empty NOS Energy bottles and transferred the oil into the rally car.

It was a triumph of roadside engineering but, when they were finished, they found they were narrowly over the 30-minute maximum lateness permitted by the rules and were not allowed to continue. The engine sustained internal damage thanks to the low oil. Rival driver Patrick Richard, of Subaru Rally Team Canada, retired on the same leg with gearbox damage.

"Obviously this is very frustrating, as we would likely have finished at least second overall and could have used the championship points," said Comrie-Picard. "But you have to have the endurance to push on, and there are two events left in the Canadian championship to allow us to pull back up in the standings."

Rallye Defi Ste-Agathe was the team's first appearance since their top-five result at X Games 15 this summer in Los Angeles.

The high-profile international contest sees only a dozen of the best drivers in the world invited to race head-to-head on a mixed asphalt and dirt course, and features an exciting 70-foot gap jump. Former Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack was the eventual winner. The race is broadcast live on ABC and ESPN, with additional broadcasts in more than 100 countries around the world.

ACP scores top-five finish at X Games ?d=89

August 5, 2009

LOS ANGELES (ACP RALLY) – NOS Energy rally driver Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard took fifth place overall this weekend at the 2009 X Games 15 Rally Car Race at the Home Depot Centre in Los Angeles.

The team qualified well and won their first elimination round, meeting Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana in the quarter-final. ACP was running strong against Pastrana when he started losing turbo boost – and bleeding time. He says a hard hit after going long on the jump during practice was to blame.

"I got the biggest air of the day over the jump during practice and nosed it in," said Comrie-Picard. "The front of the car was pretty battered by the time I lined up against Travis, and one of the boost hoses was leaking. But the crew really deserves the credit for their incredible job in repairing the car to get it back to the starting line for each round through the quarterfinals. And of course Travis drove a great race."

The unique X Games format sees drivers go head-to-head on a mixed asphalt and dirt course through the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, and features an exciting 70-foot gap jump that is a highlight for fans and drivers alike. The race is broadcast live on ABC and ESPN, with additional broadcasts in more than 100 countries around the world.

“This is a terrific result for the NOS Energy team and ACP,” said Ernie Manansala, Motorsports and Lifestyle Marketing Manager for NOS Energy Drink. “We wanted to make sure ACP used all his Human Horsepower to get over the jump, and sure enough he went big!”

The team's NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX was the only car in the top five without factory support. IRL Champion Kenny Brack – in a Ford Fiesta -- took the win when Subaru-backed Pastrana spun out during the final heat. Tanner Foust earned the bronze medal in his Ford Fiesta while teammate Brian Deegan finished in fourth. 2008 co-bronze medalists – Subaru backed Ken Block and Dave Mirra -- finished seventh and eighth respectively.

“There’s no shame in losing to the Ford Fiestas, really,” said Comrie-Picard, “the cars are beautifully engineered, and they were certainly well-driven here. I hope we see more of them competing in America.”

The 2008 contest saw Comrie-Picard well in the lead over rival Mirra when he shorted the jump in his NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX and flipped end over end. It was a spectacular crash that made highlight reels around the world. Comrie-Picard was unharmed. The flip was one of the featured moments in X Games 3D: The Movie, which premiered in Los Angeles during X Games and hits big screens nationwide later this month.

The X Games is the premier action sports event on the globe, featuring athletes competing for medals and prize money in sports including BMX Freestyle, Moto X, Skateboard, and Rally. 2009 marks the 15th anniversary of the high-profile contest.

Comrie-Picard is among just four drivers from around the world who have been invited to X Games in every year since the sport was introduced to the contest in 2006. The Rally Car discipline is a hit in the X Games format, consistently setting the highest television ratings of the four-day action sports event.

The 2009 contest saw the elimination of rally co-drivers – deemed unnecessary on the short course – and the addition of in-car commentators that allowed fans to get closer to the action than ever before with first-hand analysis, live from the course. ACP's 2008 X Games co-driver Jen Horsey was one of the commentators.

In the lead-up to the big show, Comrie-Picard was invited to throw the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers home game against the Houston Astros. He also took a podium finish at his first-ever Lucas Oil Off Road race in a Bully Dog Superlite truck (July 25) in Lake Elsinore, California.

ACP now returns his focus to the Rally America title. There is just a four-point spread between ACP, in third at the mid-point in the season, Block, Foust and Andi Mancin. All are trailing defending champion Pastrana.

The unique X Games format sees drivers go head-to-head on a mixed asphalt and dirt course through the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, and features an exciting 70-foot gap jump that is a highlight for fans and drivers alike.

"I'm really looking forward to keeping it pinned and getting massive air over that gap," said Comrie-Picard. "We learned last year that the Evo likes a little more speed than the other cars heading into the big jump and that's going to be a real advantage when we get into the stadium at X Games 15."

The 2008 contest saw Comrie-Picard well in the lead over rival Dave Mirra when he shorted the jump slightly in his NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX and flipped end over end. It was a spectacular crash that made highlight reels around the world. Comrie-Picard was unharmed.

"The X Games is about going big and sometimes crashing big," said Comrie-Picard. "We gave the fans a show last year; this year we're in it for the gold medal."

ACP takes on Bully Dog SuperLite truck ?d=87

July 24, 2009

LOS ANGELES – A week before the thrilling X Games Rally Car competition, Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard – one of the top rally drivers in North America -- will debut in a short-course off road truck race in Lake Elsinore California.

Comrie-Picard will drive a Bully Dog SuperLite truck with the support of Bully Dog and NOS Energy Drink.

"I've always wanted to race off-road and I'm totally thrilled to be doing this event," said Comrie-Picard. "I grew up on a farm and all my early driving was off-road and trucks so I'm hoping some of it comes back to me!"

It's an exciting cross-discipline entry in a series that has a number of drivers from other motorsport disciplines.

"We're delighted to have Andrew in one of our trucks to see what he can do with his rally skills. It's an exciting series and we're glad to support it with this entry," said Mike DeFord, Marketing Director of Bully Dog Performance.

The spec-series truck will be branded with NOS Energy Drink livery, Comrie-Picard's primary sponsor in the Rally America series and the X Games.

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series provides incredible high-energy motorsports excitement in a closed-venue format, with wheel-to-wheel competition and challenging courses that include huge jumps.

"I like racing in traffic, we don't get to do it much in rally, but the psychology and strategy of being out on the track with a bunch of other competitive guys is exciting,"

said Comrie-Picard, "The course's jumps will also be good practice for the big one we'll run in the rally car at the Home Depot stadium on August 2nd at the X Games."

Comrie-Picard said he already feels at home in the series. K&N Filters, a major supporter of Comrie-Picard's rally program, is a sponsor of the Lucas Oil series. The driver was also on series-supporter Team Associated as a pro R/C car driver for much of his youth -- and competed at several World Championship events with that team.

The Lucas Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) is the evolution of the long-standing support of short course racing by Forrest Lucas and Lucas Oil. Steeped in the Midwest tradition of short course off road racing infused with a West Coast influence, LOORRS brings intense four-wheel, door-to-door action to challenging, fan friendly tracks.

The SuperLite Championship is a highly competitive racing series at an affordable price. The championship runs at each and every round of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series 2009 schedule.

The championship will be featured on the Lucas Oil Series television package airing on SpeedTV, Versus and NBC. The SuperLite Championship will also have its own TV show on the Outdoor Channel covering the races, sponsors and drivers of the championship.

ACP throws first pitch at LA Dodgers' game ?d=86

July 17, 2009

LOS ANGELES (ACP RALLY) -- X Games Rally driver Andrew Comrie-Picard will throw the ceremonial first pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game this coming Sunday, July 19, against the Houston Astros.

Comrie-Picard is in Los Angeles preparing for ESPN's X Games 15, which runs July 28 through August 2. A spectacular end-over-end flip over the 70-foot gap jump at last year's contest has made him a fan favorite at the contest and he is favored for a medal this year.

"It's a terrific opportunity to  showcase the X Games and Rally America to baseball fans across America," said Comrie-Picard. "I'm hoping that everyone watching will tune into the X Games too."

Comrie-Picard's NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally car will be on display in Autograph Alley before the game, and Comrie-Picard will also be available to talk to fans and sign autographs.

"I've been trying to throw wads of duct tape through an open window -- with varying degrees of success," said Comrie-Picard, when asked if he's warming up for the big throw. "Rally drivers are some of the most versatile competitors in the world and I sure hope I can handle a baseball, too."

The X Games Rally Car Race runs Aug. 2, starting at 12:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) and will be broadcast live on ESPN and ABC.

The X Games is the premier extreme sports competition on the globe, which features the best action sports athletes competing in motocross, skateboard, BMX and rally. It  runs July 28 through August 2 at the Home Depot Center and the Staples Center venues, in Los Angeles. This summer marks the 15-year anniversary of the X Games.

Comrie-Picard has been among the dozen invited drivers every year since the rally discipline was introduced to the contest, and he secured a first-round invitation to return in 2009.

The Rally America national championship includes nine events in a cross-continent season that extends from January to late October.

ACP Rally hangs on for gutsy finish at Baie des Chaleurs ?d=85

June 30, 2009

TORONTO (ACP Rally) -- Rally driver Andrew Comrie-Picard overcame failing brakes throughout the Baie des Chaleurs Rally to finish fifth overall, clawing back from 11th overall after the first night.

"From almost the first corner of the rally it was apparent the braking system wasn't up to handing the weight of the car on these high-speed Baie roads. We have the best pads and fluid in the business, but the rotors and calipers couldn't take the heat" said Comrie-Picard.

With the brake calipers weeping fluid and the rotors overheating and cracking throughout the event, the team had to drive carefully to use the brakes as little as possible and brake very early.

Guest co-driver Jen Horsey said the situation made for a wild ride. "Andrew is usually very calm behind the wheel and I've never even heard him take a sharp intake of breath going into a corner -- but there were a few here when the pedal hit the floor."

After dropping to 11th place after the Day 1 stages, the team upped the pace on Day 2, putting in top three stage times to move ahead of rivals on every stage. Eventually they ran out of time and distance to move any higher than fifth overall, in a very competitive rally. Fortunately they had no flats on their Yokohama rally A035 tires while many of their rivals suffered punctures on the rough roads.

The finish solidifies the team’s third overall position in the Canadian Rally Championship and keeps them in shooting distance for the championship -- now at its halfway point.

"We have our work cut out for us for the rest of the year, but the new Mitsubishi Evolution 10 is getting better with every event as we develop it system by system. We expect to be competing for the win at the next round," said Comrie-Picard.

The team also scored the biggest air over the event’s famous big jump with a distance of 112 feet, recorded by rally website www.flatovercrest.com.

The Canadian Rally Championship has six events from coast to coast. The Rally America national championship includes nine events in a cross-continent season that extends from January to late October. ACP Rally will contest a busy season, with rally events on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border, select drift events -- and the X Games. The team will return to the Canadian championship in September for Round 4, Rallye Defi, outside Montreal.

The team’s next event will be the X Games in Los Angeles.

Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada and the University of Windsor’s ?d=84

June 21, 2009

Mississauga, ONT. (June 19, 2009) – Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN), today, has announced the donation of a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution to the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Engineering in support of a unique partnership with Canada’s ACP (Andrew Comrie-Picard) Rally Racing.

Over the next two years, engineering students will work with ACP Racing to design and develop a variety of improved components for Lancer Evolution rally cars. The team will assist the program in testing and data acquisition, installing the components on their own Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally car and putting them through their paces in a real race environment.

“It’s an excellent opportunity,” remarks Dr. Jennifer Johrendt, a mechanical engineering professor and the student team’s advisor. “The students will not only get hands-on engineering skills, they’ll also learn to work as a team under deadline pressures. Plus, they get to develop components that a professional racing team will test and scrutinize. We are extremely appreciative to Mitsubishi for the gift of this car and to ACP Rally for the opportunity to work with them.”

“This is a really unique program” said Koji Soga, President and CEO, MMSCAN. Whether we’re providing vehicles to firefighters learning about vehicle extrication and rescue, or providing vehicles to technicians in training across Canada, we’re delighted to make a difference when money is often a barrier to learning.”

The first of its kind in Canada, this partnership represents Mitsubishi’s belief in encouraging new engineers to combine innovation and practicality in vehicle design.

ACP Racing is headed up by Andrew Comrie-Picard, who burst into the top rally ranks in North America in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV in 2002 earning both the Canadian Open Class title and Rookie of the Year honors in the Canadian Rally Championship. Subsequently his rally team has been a regular podium contender in both Canada and the United States. In 2006, Comrie-Picard drove the only Mitsubishi invited to enter the first ever ESPN X Games rally car race, a top-tier international contest. In 2007, ACP took second overall in the North American Rally championship, and his team have built on their successes for 2008, successfully campaigning a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X in Canada, leading the U.S. points race and earning a third consecutive invitation to the X Games. ACP is well known to fans of Targa Newfoundland where he and co-driver Jen Horsey, placed first in the Modern division of the world-renowned contest in September 2008.

The 2008 Lancer Evolution is a high performance street car that offers a strong platform for rally competitions worldwide. The students have identified several areas in the car that can be optimized for rally racing.

Work on this project will continue through the year when students plan to begin installing improved components on the rally car throughout the 2009 season. Students will also attend each of the six Canadian Rally Championship events, with the chance to get hands-on experience working as members of the support crew for Team ACP.# # #

ACP climbs to 2nd in Rally America points race ?d=83

June 8, 2009

WELLSBORO, PA – Rally driver Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard overcame a series of big challenges at the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally last weekend to move into second place in the Rally America points race.

“It was  a tough weekend for us,” said Comrie-Picard. “But every point counts in this championship and we’re in it for the season.”

Comrie-Picard and Irish co-driver Marshall Clarke fought back from 31st after a rollover crash to finish the race in 13th overall. The result gave them the handful of points they needed to climb up one rung in the tight championship race.

“Marshall and I were actually able to roll the car back onto its wheels and keep going,” said Comrie-Picard. “It was a soft rollover and with a new windshield, the car was back to 100 per cent – but we lost a lot of time.”

Comrie-Picard is in second-place overall after five rounds in the Rally America championship, behind Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana and ahead of Rockstar Energy’s Tanner Foust.

The Susquehannock Trail event has long been known as one of the most demanding events on the U.S. calendar. The 2009 running of the contest featured a return to the popular two-day format, with a spectator-friendly daylight schedule and super special stages on each day.

“The spectator stages at the fairgrounds in Wellsboro were huge this year,” said Comrie-Picard. “It was great for us to see so many fans out there.”

The contest is renowned as one of the toughest on the Rally America calendar and the team was not alone in having problems. Factory-backed Travis Pastrana lost a minute on the first day to a suspension failure, Polish ace Andi Mancin battled braking issues and the Swedish World Rally team of Patrik Sandell and Emil Axelsson were out with a blown engine on the first day.

NOS Energy Mitsubishi and Team ACP finish second overall ?d=82

June 1, 2009

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Rally driver Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard took a second-place finish at Round 2 of the Canadian Rally Championship over the weekend and is now set to return to U.S. competition in Pennsylvania in a few days.

Comrie-Picard and co-driver Robbie Durant took their new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X to the Rocky Mountain Rally, based in Calgary, Alberta, for the high-speed May 29-30 event.

“It was an intense two days of competition, especially with the gravel debut of the new car” said Comrie-Picard. “The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is a strong platform and we’re working to improve its performance with every event. The Evo X will be more and more competitive through the year.”

The new car is under development this season in Canada, while the team continues its aggressive campaign in their 2007 NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX south of the border.

In addition to the rally, the team welcomed key partners, including a number of local Yokohama Tire dealers, for ride-along sessions the day before the event – giving their supporters the ride of a lifetime on a gravel course east of Calgary.

Special thanks to Calgary’s Platinum Mitsubishi for hosting the team at the dealership during the contest.

The result brings the team into third overall in the Canadian championship. Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard and Rockstar Energy’s Antoine L’Estage are tied for the lead – with one win and one DNF apiece after the opening two rounds.

“We had some luck on our side this weekend that allowed us to podium despite some inevitable teething trouble with the new car,” said Comrie-Picard. “It was an excellent learning event for us and now we know what we’ll be working on before the next Canadian round.”

Meanwhile, Comrie-Picard is narrowly in third-place overall after five rounds in the Rally America championship, behind Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana and Rockstar Energy’s Tanner Foust.

“The Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally is close to home for us and we know it well,” said Comrie-Picard. “We’re looking forward to resuming our US championship campaign – as well as facing off against some series newcomers.”

The event is expected to feature the American rally debut of Swedish World Rally competitors Patrik Sandell and Emil Axelsson, and Freestyle motocross champion Brian Deegan -- winner of 11 X Games medals.

The Susquehannock Trail event has long been known as one of the most demanding events on the U.S. calendar. The 2009 running of the contest features a return to the popular two-day format, with a spectator-friendly daylight schedule and super special stages on each day.

Teams will take on over 100 miles of competitive stages this coming weekend (June 5-6) on a tricky course that’s fast-paced, yet technical. Narrow but very fast roads, with the potential for slick mud if wet, translate to plenty of challenges for competitors.

ACP Rally continues championship charge with fast run in Oregon ?d=81

May 19, 2009

MOUNT HOOD, OREGON (ACP Rally) – Driver Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard and the NOS Energy Mitsubishi put in an aggressive drive at the Oregon Trail Rally this weekend to finish fourth and maintain a top-three position in the Rally America championship standings.

Comrie-Picard and co-driver Robbie Durant were one second off the overall lead until a flat tire at the mid-point in the three-day event cost them nearly a minute to the leaders. The duo fought hard to regain position, finishing the weekend narrowly in fourth-place overall. After three days of racing and more than 100 miles of competition, the final results saw just six seconds separating second from fourth place.

“We were definitely on the pace for the win, and could have taken it without that puncture,” said Comrie-Picard. “But the championship standings are very close and we expect to be back in the lead after the next round.” Comrie-Picard and Durant went into the event leading the Rally America series.

Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana took the win, Rockstar Energy’s Tanner Foust was second, and the Polish driver Andi Mancin finished third to score his first-ever U.S. podium.

“This was the first event this season that we didn’t finish on the podium and that’s a disappointment,” said Comrie-Picard. “But the competition was amazing and I have to hand it to Andi Mancin – he drove a great race.”

The event was challenging from the start for the team, after an off-road excursion during a practice session before the rally sent them to the pits to rebuild the front-left corner of the car. It was thanks to the community of Mitsubishi fans in the Pacific Northwest that the team was able to take the start at all.

“Having to do a major mechanical rebuild when you’re 2,500 miles from home can be a challenge, but our friends in the Mitsubishi community came through for us here,” said Comrie-Picard. “A big thanks to everybody, especially Aaron from English Racing in Camas, Washington, and Gene from Magic Auto in Elma, Washington, for helping us out.”

At the mid-point in the U.S. season, Comrie-Picard is in third-place overall in the standings – seven points behind leader Pastrana; two points behind Foust.

The Oregon Trail Rally took place over 100 miles of competition on a course that includes a mix of twisty, hard-packed forest conditions and wide-open farming roads. The Mount Hood area’s hilly terrain meant plenty of elevation changes throughout the contest. The conditions were sunny and bright, making for dry and dusty roads and a visibility challenge for teams.

Many fans took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend, turning out by the thousands to take in the action at the Portland International Raceway, and the Mount Hood spectator areas.

Rally activities began on Thursday with a kick-off car show in downtown Portland. Comrie-Picard was among the key series players to make an appearance Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square for a midday display where fans had the opportunity to meet with their favorite drivers and check out their race machines.

The action continued at the Portland International Raceway on Friday evening, with a short super special stage that used sections of both the tarmac and motocross tracks and drew an estimated 1,500 fans.

Next, the team heads north for Round 2 of the Canadian Rally Championship, the Rocky Mountain Rally on May 29-30. The team is back in the U.S. on June 5-6 at the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally in Pennsylvania.

ACP extends Rally America lead ?d=77

April 21, 2009

SOUTH BEND, WA – Rally driver Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard put in an aggressive drive this weekend at the Olympus Rally to finish second overall and extend his lead in the Rally America championship series.

“This was an incredibly tough rally,” said Comrie-Picard. “The competition between the top teams was intense; we fought hard for this result.”

It is the third podium finish for the NOS Energy Mitsubishi in three starts in the series.

Entering the event, Comrie-Picard was tied with Rockstar Energy’s Tanner Foust for the championship lead. After a two-day battle over more than 100 miles of rugged stages, Comrie-Picard came out ahead in the points.

After three rounds of the Rally America championship, Comrie-Picard tops the standings with 48 points, while Foust and Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana are tied for second with 45 points apiece.

“We’re thrilled to be leading the championship,” said Comrie-Picard. “We’re gunning for top points this year and we’ll be battling hard at every round.”

The rally opened with a series of extremely fast stages that saw teams top 120 mph on some of the straightaways. Comrie-Picard and co-driver Robbie Durant finished the first day in the third-place position and prepared to charge on the more technical Day 2 course.

Serious mechanical trouble for the early rally leader, Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block, meant the battle was on between Comrie-Picard and Red Bull’s Travis Pastrana for Day 2. The two traded seconds all weekend, even finishing stages in a dead-heat tie.

But as Comrie-Picard prepared to push into the final miles Sunday afternoon, an ailing transmission began to cost them time. Without the use of third or fourth gear through the final two stages of the event, he was unable to catch Pastrana.

“Everybody had problems; Travis and Tanner both had to do some serious transmission work overnight after Day 1, and Ken (Block) blew two motors,” said Comrie-Picard. “There’s no doubt this is a tough sport.”

Third place went to Foust. The driver had made an early bid for the lead but lost time to the leaders on Sunday while running with a back-up gearbox.

The next round for the team is the Portland-based Oregon Trail Rally in a month’s time (May 15-17). Driver Comrie-Picard is also slated to begin running select events in the prestigious Formula D drifting series in the coming months.

The sport is also featured in the annual X Games, the premier action sports event on the globe, featuring athletes competing for medals and prize money in sports including BMX Freestyle, Moto X, Skateboard, and Rally. Comrie-Picard has been among the dozen invited drivers every year since the rally discipline was introduced to the contest, and he has already secured an early invitation to return in 2009.

The Rally America national championship includes nine events in a cross-continent season that extends from January to late October. The Canadian Rally Championship has six events from coast to coast. ACP Rally will contest a busy season, with rally events on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border, select drift events -- and the X Games.

Team ACP and the NOS Energy Mitsubishi to defend title lead in Washin ?d=75

April 16, 2009

ABERDEEN, Washington (ACP Racing) – Rally driver Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard is set to defend his lead in the Rally America national championship at the challenging Olympus Rally in Aberdeen, Washington this weekend (April 18-19).

“We’re looking forward to a strong performance at this technical event,” said Comrie-Picard. “These are the kinds of roads that really suit our team.”

The team took back-to-back podium finishes in their NOS Energy Mitsubishi during the first two events in the season and are now tied with Rockstar Energy’s Tanner Foust for the championship lead.

The rugged course this weekend promises to test competitors’ range of skills, with roads that transition between twisty and tree-lined, to fast and flowing – with daunting drop-offs always a possibility should drivers end up off-course. The rally will be based in the ocean-side community of Aberdeen, with day-long Service Parks in Taholah on Saturday, April 18, and South Bend on Sunday, April 19.

“The NOS Energy car is in terrific condition, and we found 30 horsepower more on the AMS Performance dyno last week with fairly simple mods,” said Comrie-Picard. “We’re looking forward to continuing our championship charge.”

With fairly cool weather and the possibility of rain, this event could be especially challenging, particularly for the leading teams who will claw tooth-and-nail for fractions of a second advantage over the two-day contest.

The event will see Robbie Durant return to the co-driver’s seat after his podium debut with the team in Missouri.

In addition to Foust, Comrie-Picard will also be looking to ward off a challenge by the factory Subaru Rally Team USA drivers – Red Bull’s Travis Pastrana and Monster Energy’s Ken Block -- who are tied for second place overall in the championship.

Driver Comrie-Picard is also slated to begin running select events in the prestigious Formula D drifting series in the coming months.

“The two sports are awesome demonstrations of car control and I’m looking forward to this new kind of competition,” said Comrie-Picard. “It’s a different kind of driving, but there are a lot of complimentary skills and it’s an exciting challenge for the team.”

ACP takes Rally America championship lead ?d=74

March 3, 2009

SALEM, MO (Feb. 28, 2009) – Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard and the ACP Rally team moved into the Rally America championship lead this weekend with a second-place finish at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in southern Missouri.

“We’ve got our eye on the title this year,” said Comrie-Picard. “It’s very competitive out there and we’re in the game.”

The early-spring event takes place in Missouri’s scenic Ozark foothills. The course roads are consistently fast and flowing, and weather is changeable. Teams arrived in the area to tornado warnings, started the contest the next afternoon in balmy spring temperatures and crossed the finish line a day later in the middle of a blinding snowstorm.

“With the high speeds and the wild weather, you have to be prepared for anything – especially when it comes to tires.” said Comrie-Picard. “Our Yokohama tires came through for us in every condition.”

The result continues a strong start to the season in the NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The team finished third in Rally America’s season opener last month. The back-to-back podium finishes mean Comrie-Picard is now tied with Rockstar Energy’s Tanner Foust for the championship lead.

The exciting contest saw Comrie-Picard and co-driver Robbie Durant in a tight battle for the podium from the very start, challenging multi-time event winners Ken Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino, of Subaru Rally Team USA, for the early lead.

The team dropped half a minute to a pair of spins late on Day 1 and then fended off a challenge from Foust and co-driver Chrissie Beavis. The two teams were just a tenth of a second apart at the mid-point in the contest.

In the end, Block and Gelsomino took their fourth-consecutive win in four starts at the Missouri race, while Comrie-Picard and Durant finished second with a 15-second margin over Foust and Beavis.

Next, ACP Rally heads to the Olympus Rally in Washington State on April 18-19.

ACP Rally aims for podium in Missouri ?d=73

February 24, 2009

SALEM, MO (Feb. 24, 2009) – Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard and the ACP Rally team are looking to notch up another podium this weekend when they take on Rally America’s second round, the fast and flowing 100 Acre Wood Rally in south-central Missouri (Feb. 27-28).

“This race is about putting your foot down and keeping it there,” said Comrie-Picard. “The course is high-speed and it’s a battle of the brave to the finish.”

After a strong start in the NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, the team is third in Rally America’s overall points standings and optimistic about this next round. Comrie-Picard finished on the podium at this event in 2007 and wound up a narrow fourth last year while nursing an ailing transmission during a fierce podium battle.

The early-spring event takes teams through a through Missouri’s scenic Ozark foothills. The course roads are consistently fast and flowing, but the big question mark is the weather. In previous years, conditions have run the gamut from balmy and sunny to below freezing, with pelting ice and snow.

“Bring it on,” said Comrie-Picard. “We’ve got the car and the tires for whatever Mother Nature can throw at us.”

The team will be keeping a close eye on Subaru Rally Team USA’s Ken Block, who has chalked up three wins in three previous starts at this contest. “Ken’s the guy to beat, for sure,” said Comrie-Picard. “It’s time for somebody to end his winning streak and we’d like it to be us.”

ACP Rally is back in U.S. competition following a stop in Canada, where the NOS Energy Mitsubishi rally car was on display at a prestigious automotive exhibition, the Toronto Auto Show.
